Motorola is not playing. The company has launched its two new foldable flip phones — the Razr 40 and 40 Ultra (also called Razr+) — at aggressive prices, along with a new trade-in policy to battle the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
I predicted that the new phones would be cheaper. The price of the company’s revamped Razr line has dropped since the first one launched in 2020. The Razr 40 costs 799.99 here in the UK (there’s no US price yet), making it 200 cheaper than the Flip 4 at the moment of the release and 100 less. compared to its current discounted price. The Razr 40 Ultra is priced at $999 in the US (same as the Flip 4) and 1,049 in the UK. Motorola is also offering a Lenovo Tab M10 HD bundled with every Razr 40 Ultra purchase through June 30.
This is a good way to announce your new phone. Motorola’s new trade-in policy promises up to 400 cash on Razr purchase in Western Europe. Looking at the trade-in prices offered it appears that the highest price available is 528 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB.
Are you looking for an even cheaper device? Samsung has cut its prices in a surprise sale.
You’ll get between 300 and 528 for iPhone 12 and 13, while Google’s Pixel 6 Pro will only earn 210.00. The most customers will get for any Samsung phone is 358 for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Though it’s not clear if Motorola will stick to the prices currently listed on its site for Razr purchases, or if there’s a separate policy just for the Razr, which maxes out at 400, it says in the press release. I asked for clarification on this.
Still, it’s interesting to compare Samsung’s trade-in prices to Motorola’s. The last iPhone model that Samsung will accept as a trade-in when you buy a Flip 4 is the iPhone XS Max, which is worth 280 (depending on its condition). Motorola currently offers 168 for the same model.
Samsung’s swap limit for the Flip 4 is also higher at 570 for the 1TB Galaxy S22 Ultra. It seems that Samsung is offering better prices for your old phone, but Motorola is accepting later models. Though I wouldn’t recommend swapping a recently released phone for a slightly new phone, even if it folds in half.
Samsung is known for its aggressive offers and pricing when competing with newly released rival phones. The Flip 4’s price has been reduced by 100 in the UK store (it’s still $999.99 on the US website). It’s also flexible with its trade-in pricing, sometimes offering higher iPhone prices — for a limited time — when a new Galaxy is announced. In 2015, the Korean company launched its latest test drive promotion, which allows iPhone users to try the Galaxy Note 5 free for 30 days, a popular move at the time.
Motorola was right to at least try to match Samsung’s aggressiveness with its new lower price, free tablet, and trade-in options. But more clarity is needed on the latter. There were also some compromises to reduce the Razr 40 to 799. It doesn’t have the latest Qualcomm processor, opting instead for the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. Well, I have to see what that means for performance and battery life when I test it. review machine. Both the 40 Ultra and Razr 40 only have an IP52 rating.
We also don’t know how many years of Android support the new phones will have. Previous Razr phones have received up to two updates, which is a small amount of support for expensive phones. Meanwhile, Samsung has promised at least four years of support for its Flip 4 and Fold 4. This is a key detail that will determine the real value of the new Razr phones.
